The Project...
I've been mulling this over in my head for a while now. I think what I've finally decided to do is another YouTube-ing of Whitman. I want to focus on the words themselves and explore various pronunciations and pauses throughout my reading. I'm still not one hundred percent on what poem I want to use, but I will find something that I can piece together a cohesive video with. I'm also thinking of exploring the various revisions of LoG to really find the words and punctuation that suit my video/audio best. In a way, I truly want to "remix" Whitman to come up with my own re-mastered Whitman poem.

It would be interesting to show the oral differences between the 1855 "Song of Myself" and the later versions. It seems too that both versions would call for different audio--the 1855 something feral, and the 1860 and later versions, something tight and more constricted. -- James M.
ReplyDeleteVery nice . . . I can see a very interesting visual/audio collage of different versions of Whitman . . . might be nice to include some self-reflections in written or audio form . . .

Does anyone know who this is?
ReplyDeleteSo we do Ginsberg on 4/26 in class – which I am assuming is simply facilitating a discussion based on blog posts from the class based on our blog instructions. So it seems like the key things are to agree on (i) which Ginsberg poems to read and (ii) a timeline for prepping for the 4/26 class.
I have a little experience with Ginsberg (not a ton by any means), but thought that “Howl (Part 1)” and “A Supermarket in California” might be two good poems to use. Howl being his seminal work and Supermarket literally taking place with Whitman in a grocery store. Does anyone have any other thoughts on this?
On calendar, we probably should get our blog instructions to Prof Hanley by Thursday/Friday next week so he can post and people have time to read what we suggest. I am happy to take an initial stab at this and send something around to the group to comment. Maybe we can then find a time to meet before class on 4/26 to discuss various blog posts and figure out how we want to handle the class. We probably will have a better sense of this once we see how the class on Rukeyser and Sandburg goes.

Hey! I'm so sorry that I missed this comment. I never got notified for some reason. And I was super busy last week and was completely thrown off by our class being cancelled.
